House-To-Home in the Bethany Neighborhood
House-to-Home is a lease-to-own development in the Bethany neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas, located in the urban core from 10th Street to Valley and Ohio to Central. The development consists of 20 new single-family homes that will be rented with an option to purchase the house after 15 years. Residents will earn equity in the home throughout those 15 years that will assist with the final purchase of their home.
El Centro, Inc. will provide minor home repair classes and CHWC will provide home-buyer education and credit counseling to participants in this program and ensure that they are prepared to be home owners at the end of the 15 year period. There will be four classes offered throughout each year and all participants will be required to attend at least three of the four classes to meet the requirements to purchase their home.
CHWC has partnered with The Dalmark Group to be the consultant for this project. The development represents a $5 million investment in Bethany and provides 20 families the opportunity to be home owners. CHWC is financing the development with the use of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, Federal TCAP dollars, KHRC HOME Funds, and a private mortgage from Country Club Bank. This project was created in response to the decline in the for-sale market. CHWC began construction on the development in November 2009. Homes will be available for rent/lease beginning February 2010.
