About Us
In 1988, Catholic Housing of Wyandotte County was formed by the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas to address housing and neighborhood issues in three targeted neighborhoods: St. Peter, St. Joseph/St. Benedict and Strawberry Hill. In 2002, Catholic Housing merged with Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City, Kansas to become what is today CHWC, Inc. (Community Housing Wyandotte County). CHWC now serves seven urban core neighborhoods of Kansas City, KS: Prescott, Bethany, St. Peter/Waterway, St. Joseph/St. Benedict, Chelsea, Riverview, and Strawberry Hill.
Since that time we have built over 150 new homes and rehabbed many more. Today, we continue that work and now incorporate community organizing, community safety initiatives, and many other community building activities. We understand that a strong neighborhood is made up of more than houses; a strong neighborhood needs dedicated homeowners who are willing to become engaged and committed members of the community. And we are here to help each neighborhood become vibrant, clean, safe, and friendly communities where people are proud to live.
